Introduction to Edo Bayashi music

The music of the Japanese shinto shrine, Edo Bayashi ("festival music of Edo"), is a suite of 5 pieces played by 5 musicians on shime, odaiko, fue and atarigane. Internationally-acclaimed taiko artist Kenny Endo calls it the jazz music of Japan because of its shifting, interlocking rhythms and improvisation. A student of Suzuki Kyosuke of the Wakayama Shachu in Tokyo, Iris Shiraishi is thrilled to be able to introduce this music to interested folks willing to be immersed in this rich cultural practice.  Please check the Mu Performing Arts' website for more information!
